8 Directions of Sword-n-Board Baby!

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Lots of new minor things in this new WIP:

  • Blockman now has 8 direction of walk and idle animation.
  • Graphical updates
  • First Villain appears! (but he doesn’t do anything)
  • Testing some UI elements (they do nothing yet)… more of an artifact of testing.
  • SWF size tripled because of assets (650k now!)

Check it out, let me know what you think of the improvements.  More to come later this week.  Stay tuned!

Improved Assets

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

While working on some new assets for the game, I discovered a much better way to work with Blender / GIMP to get what I want out of the graphics, so here’s a side by side comparison of the images. Look for a new link later this week with maybe some updated graphics and gameplay.

I would have liked to post an updated bat render… but I don’t have time to muck around with more actionscript… it’s time for bed.

A Bit of "Flare"

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Tonight I played a bit more in my asset creation sandbox and added some eye candy to the first encounter.

Nothing new from a gameplay perspective, but I enjoy the flames, so I thought I’d share. ;)

Test Encounter

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

The game engine is coming along very nicely for Project:Dungeon Crawler (P:DC abbreviated from here on out). I am able to add AI Controllers to any unit and give them customized actions.

For now though… auto-attacking is working and the block-men along with the bats will attack if enemies approach them. So the encounter I am posting here is highly undertuned, but it’s merely a test of the engine and some fun for my followers.

Try to kill both bats. =)

WIP: Pixel Bats Attack!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Man, it’s way too late in the evening to even start thinking about a blog post, but I’m going to write a quick one anyway.

I’m still working on the internals of the game engine I’m using to create all of the encounters in project: Dungeon Crawler, but tonight I think I hit a milestone I’m pretty pleased with.  The bats have very limited intelligence, but they thirst for blood.  The bat will roam (toward the lower left corner), until he finds a block dude within range and attempt to persue him.  If the bat gets within range, he begins to attack dealing damage to the unsuspecting victim.  Muahaha…
